I have a Creative Portrait Photography Project in development that I would like to tell you about.
Every Friday between June and September of 2018 my friend Kate Shingler and I meet at my photo studio in Montreal. Over our iced coffees we debrief on the couples that we are about to meet, interview and photograph. It is what we are informally calling “The Marriage Project”.

THE CREATORS Kate Shingler is a writer in Montreal. I am a Montreal-based portrait photographer with a studio in Westmount.
THE CONCEPT Our idea is a simple one: Find couples who had been married or together for 40 years or more and interview them. We want to talk to these couples and find out what makes their partnerships work after all of these years and what secrets they might have to share with us. Kate Shingler leads the conversation and I take photos throughout the short session. The collection of images and excerpts of these conversations will be compiled in a book as well as an exhibit.
After some discussion about imagery and style, Kate and I agreed that we both saw the portrait photography in crisp black and white images on a clean white background. This style of classic and timeless portraiture is a perfect compliment to the words and thoughts of our subjects.

THE RESULTS This project is more than a collection of stories, it is a rich tapestry woven with love and true personal connection. THE BOOK
Our book promises to be an exciting collection of the best of these stories accompanied by a portrait of each couple interviewed. We will be launching the portrait photography book with a vernissage and book signing in December of 2018.
