Melissa and Richard’s Wedding at Golf St-Raphael, Montreal

Weddings take months to plan and everyone hopes for a beautiful sunny day. But as we well know, Montreal weather cannot be predicted and every summer we have a few very rainy weekends. But I will let you in on a secret — rainy weather is actually better and more beautiful for photography. It’s true! The colours appear richer, the light is softer and more flattering than full sun.St_Raphael_11Melissa and Richard got ready in separate suites at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel (downtown Montreal) and then took separate limos to the Golf St-Raphael where they were set to have the ceremony and reception. The rooms at the Fairmont are beautiful, spacious and offer a great setting for photos.  Large windows provide beautiful natural light. I always advise brides when possible to get their hair and make-up done where they are getting ready. It saves the stress and hassle of moving around too much on their wedding day. Better for the bride to be relaxed and able to enjoy every minute leading up to the ceremony.

Indoor ceremonies can be more intimate and guests often hear the vows better than with speakers set up outdoors.St_Raphael_08 St_Raphael_10a1284_140816I love this chaotic photo (below) of the everyone shielding the bride from the rain on our way out to do photos. 1339_140816_1 We chose to photograph the bride and groom under a canopy of trees.  They stayed out of the rain and we got to work with the beautiful soft light that we love. For these portraits I didn’t use any extra lighting, this was all natural light. St_Raphael_13St_Raphael_12One of my favourite locations to photograph at Golf St-Raphael is actually this row of trees right in the parking lot.  You’d never imagine that there are cars parked on both sides. I love the symmetry of the cypress trees and the bold colour.St_Raphael_14a St_Raphael_18 St_Raphael_20The DJs from Cheers Entertainment kept the party going into the late hours. Overall this was a very fun wedding to photograph and I have to applaud the couple for being brave and going outside to do their photo shoot in the driving rain. It was worth it!St_Raphael_17 St_Raphael_21
